The vehicles of the Wuppertaler suspension railway class 15

Since 2016 the more than 40 year-old suspension railway carriages of The class 1972 are removed by new trains. 122 million euros are used for it, a project by the company Vossloh Kiepe as a general enterpriser is moved. 31 new vehicles are planned in whole Europe, are developed and built. Production beginning was the final assembly of the vehicle boxes and in November, 2013 the powered chassis then happens in the workshop inVohwinkel. Are all vehicles is exchanged the train protection on ETCS (European Train Control system) moved.


On the 14. 11. 2015 around 11:15 the truck with the front part of the GTW 1 reached the imperial place in Vohwinkel. Numerous visitors could hardly expect it to welcome the new generation of the suspension railway.

The first test journey took place at night from 8. to the 9th of February on a section in Vohwinkel, at night from 23. to the 24th of February the GTW 1 drove on first the whole distance.
